24 hours since the volcano in La Palma erupted in pictures
With only gone 24 hours since the eruption, which happened at 3:12pm, the new volcano on La Palma has caused a spectacular and devastating light show, particularly at night. More than 5,000 people remain evacuated from their homes to guarantee their safety in the face of the natural disaster, which has led the Military Emergency Unit (UME) to deploy 67 members of 30 vehicles on the island.
Fred.Olsen has been laying on extra ferry trips from Los Cristianos to La Palma as cavalcades of army and emergency vehicles have gathered in southern port to get to La Palma as quickly as possible to help in any way possible.
According to the first calculations made by the Cabildo and the El Paso City Council, around a hundred homes in the municipality have been destroyed by lava flows that are heading to the sea.
