Yellow weather warning for haze and strong winds throughout the Canary Islands

The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has activated a yellow weather warning for strong winds and haze throughout the Canary Islands, which will begin tomorrow in Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, and Lanzarote, and will extend to all the islands from Saturday.

On Saturday, January 15th, a day with intervals of high clouds and the presence of a haze of suspended dust is expected, which in the afternoon will tend to move to the slopes facing south.

In general, current temperatures will be maintained, except for a slight rise in minimums in the western islands. Maximum temperatures of around 23°C are forecast in Tenerife and Gran Canaria.

Regarding winds, Aemet are predicting they will be moderate to strong from the southeast in the western province )Tenerife, La Palma, La Gomera, El Hierro), while in the eastern province they will be strong from the southeast, especially affecting the extreme northeast of Gran Canaria.

The wind will also affect the west-facing slopes of Fuerteventura and Lanzarote where gusts up to 60km/h are forecast, and up to 75km/h in El Hierro.
