‘This hospital is occupied by deniers who have decided not to get vaccinated’

In the last few days there have been several videos and social media posts from nurses and health workers in the Canary islands, who have had enough of people’s actions and are shouting loudly to those people who are ‘anti vaxxers’ to wake up and get vaccinated as they are filling our hospitals and risking the health of our families and our economy.

After more than a year since the coronavirus pandemic broke into our daily lives and having to deal with patients on the front line, health workers who have witnessed the cruellest side of the virus first-hand, have had enough of people’s attitudes.

Yesterday a 24-year-old operating theatre assistant and ambulance technician from Tenerife addressed an open letter "to those who go through everything", in which he asks those who ignore health recommendations to reflect on the consequences that their actions are having on their environment, which could infect a friend or family member or make the island's economy worse.

This time, it was the turn of a nurse from Gran Canaria who works in a hospital in Tenerife where, at the moment, there are "seven Covid wards that are full and today the ICU has been filled with Covid patients". In his video on social media, he shows his evident indignation, and attacks the deniers.

"I can come to understand that you think you are having a spoon stuck in you when they give you the vaccine, but what the deniers of the islands refuse to understand is, that the health workers have been giving their all for a year or more, and that your ignorance is influencing my health and that of my family”.

"I would love to say that most of the people who are admitted to these Covid wards are responsible, but no, they are people aged between 35 and 50 years old who have decided not to get vaccinated," continues the health worker in his video.

"What we are doing in the hospital where I work, is replacing wards intended for normal patients or people who need operations, with more Covid wards, the hospital is occupied by deniers who have decided not to get vaccinated and ignore restrictions."

In this regard, he demands that business owners force their workers to be vaccinated because "their irresponsibility is causing our health system to collapse." He added “This is never going to end because there are still people who don’t get it, who think its fine now, well it isn’t”

His video, which he posted yesterday (Tuesday), has been shared more than 10,000 on Instagram and has hundreds of comments applauding his sentiments.
