Covid update: Daily infections grow in Tenerife and stabilize in Gran Canaria

The Ministry of Health has notified of 221 new cases of coronavirus in the Canary Islands today, which after 297 medical discharges leaves 4,001 active cases in the archipelago of which 85 are admitted to ICU and 309 remain hospitalized, with 3,607 people in home isolation.

The cases continue to grow in Tenerife, as it is once again the island with the most new infections registering 147 (67%) of the total against 56 in Gran Canaria, who are stabilising the spread of the virus. Lanzarote registered 11 new cases today, El Hierro 4, La Palma 2, and Fuerteventura just one. In fact there are only 49 active cases now in Fuerteventura as they continue their downward trend of contagion.

There was good news this morning from the ICU ward of the Dr. José Molina Orosa Hospital in Lanzarote, where 66 year old Patricia left the ICU unit after 105 days of being critically ill with Covid-19. She was admitted to ICU on January 6th, and health workers who have been treating her applauded her as she was transferred to a ward.
