Covid update: Fuerteventura moves up to Level 2 restrictions

Covid update: Fuerteventura moves up to Level 2 restrictions

The Ministry of Health of the Canary Islands has updated the health alert levels this afternoon (Thursday) after reviewing the epidemiological report of the General Directorate of Public Health, with consolidated data as of yesterday (November 10th), and as a result has moved Fuerteventura to alert level 2, while the rest of the islands will continue for another week at alert level 1. The change in the level comes into effect at 00.00 hours on Monday (15th) until the review in two weeks time on November 25th, being subject to periodic revaluations, even before the indicated date if necessary.

In the Canary Islands, 912 new cases of COVIDwere reported between November 3rd and 9th, which represents an increase of 64% in the daily average of new cases in relation to the previous week, in which 555 cases were registered.

The average 7-day incidence rate in the Canary Islands as a whole, and by islands, has increased by 19.3%, so that, from a daily average of 28 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, it went to 34.4 cases in the last week. By islands, all are at a medium risk level, except La Palma, which this week is at low risk, and El Hierro which is at very low.

The daily average 14-day incidence rate has also increased to a greater or lesser extent in all the islands, so the increase in the islands as a whole is 16.3% and is at medium risk in this indicator.

The Ministry of Health says that the increase in incidence rates and cases is due to the general relaxation in the use of masks, distancing, ventilation, hand washing (which have all been proven to work), and in fact all of the measures, by the public, whether residents or tourists, and the belief that the pandemic is over… which it clearly isn’t

They also insist that Fuerteventura will not be the only island to change level if the data warrants it.
