A man has sadly died from drowning after being rescued from the swimming pool of a hotel in Esquinzo, in the municipality of Pájara, on the island of Fuerteventura yesterday (Saturday), according to reports from the Canary Islands' Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES).
The incident happened at around 1:00pm, when emergency services received a call reporting that a hotel lifeguard had pulled a man from the water showing signs of drowning and suffering a cardiac arrest from the amount of water he had ingested.
A coordinating nurse provided telephone instructions to the lifeguard, who immediately began cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and used a defibrillator. The device delivered one shock before paramedics arrived.
Emergency medical teams took over continued advanced life support treatment at the scene in an effort to revive the man. Despite their efforts, they were unable to restore his heartbeat, and he was pronounced dead.
Officers from the Guardia Civil attended the scene and have opened the usual investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
No further details about the man, apart from that he was on holiday at the hotel, or the cause of the incident have been released at this stage.
