Covid update: lowest number of new cases in a month, after 8 days of decline

The Ministry of Health of the Canary Islands has reported 478 new cases of coronavirus today, the lowest figure since July 11th (409), after eight consecutive days of decrease in the number of infections, although there have also been five Covid deaths confirmed, one in Tenerife and four in Gran Canaria.

The number of infections reported today is 23% lower than that of Sunday last week, when 626 cases were confirmed (148 more). Gran Canaria has the most new cases today with 237, followed by Tenerife with 196, Fuerteventura has 23, Lanzarote 17, there are two in La Palma and La Gomera, and 1 in El Hierro.

Yet again the incidence rates for the islands are showing a downward trend with the IA7 now at 203.73, and the IA14 457.64. Active cases in the islands have now passed 16,000 with Las Palmas being the most infected municipality with 4,944 active cases, almost a thousand more than Santa Cruz. The virus continues to spread in the south of Tenerife where there are now 2,607 active cases.
