Covid update: New cases fall to 564 with four Covid related deaths

The Ministry of Health have released the latest data for today, which shows that there are 564 new cases of coronavirus in the Canary Islands in the last 24 hours, which have dropped for the last two days running. However, there have been four more deaths in Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, and La Palma, and hospital admissions to both wards and ICU have increased significantly (see data below).

Of the new cases 291 were in Tenerife and 238 were in Gran Canaria, which is 93% of the daily total in the two islands. Fuerteventura and Lanzarote have 15 new cases each, there are 5 in La Palma, and none in either La Gomera or El Hierro.

Although the number of new cases is shown as dropping, it is important to remember that Sundays and Mondays are usually lower as they are the data from the weekend which has less testing and less discharges. For this reason it is important for us to see the next four days before assuming any downward turns in the spread f the virus.
