Ash cloud is affecting flights at Tenerife North airport

The airport on the island of La Palma remains inoperative today (Friday) due to ash accumulation, a condition that is also causing flight delays or diversions in Tenerife, where flights from Los Rodeos (TFN) have been diverted to the Reina Sofia airport in the south.

AENA has said that the Tenerife North airport is fully safe and operational, so the decision on whether to operate the flights or not is down to the airlines. However, no flights have taken off or landed at the airport this morning, which, according to AENA, is strange after a safety evaluation of the runway. No international flights have been affected at this moment in time.

AENA also updated the situation in La Palma this morning on Twitter, posting that cleaning work continues at the airport, which has been closed since yesterday due to the volcanic ash that has accumulated on its runways.

The situation is complicating the external communications of the island, but it does not leave it isolated, since the regular routes by sea are still in service, operated several times a day by Armas and Fred Olsen.
