A 58-year-old woman has been taken to hospital after a fire broke out in an aparthotel in Los Cristianos in the south of Tenerife in the early hours of this morning (Sunday).
Emergency services were called to the complex on Calle Arenales at around 5:45am, according to reports from the Canary Islands emergency response centre, 112.
The fire is believed to have started in the kitchen of the holiday complex. Firefighters managed to contain the flames before they could spread to other parts of the building.
The woman was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and later taken to the nearby Hospiten Sur University Hospital for more treatment. Her condition is described as moderate but not life-threatening.
Multiple emergency units attended the scene, including fire crews, paramedics, and officers from both the Local and National Police who are investigating the cause of the fire. The area was secured and ventilated to protect other guests staying in the resort.
This incident serves as a reminder of the risks posed by domestic fires, particularly in tourist settings, and the importance of swift emergency response.
