The Canary Islands are set for unsettled weather today, Wednesday, with rain, strong winds and the arrival of a calima (Saharan dust) expected across much of the archipelago, according to the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET).

Forecasters say light to moderate rainfall will affect several islands during the early hours and morning, while a widespread calima is expected to arrive later in the afternoon, with the highest concentration of dust at higher altitudes. Temperatures will remain largely unchanged or rise slightly, although weak to moderate frost is possible on the central peaks of Tenerife.

The weather conditions come as the islands continue to experience the effects of Storm Regina, which has already caused more than 30 weather-related incidents across the Canary Islands.

Strong north-westerly winds will affect the archipelago overnight, with very strong gusts expected in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, as well as in high areas and on the north-east and south-west slopes of the mountainous islands. Gusts could reach around 90 km/h in northern Lanzarote and up to 100 km/h along the Tenerife ridge peaks.

From the morning onwards, winds will turn northerly and gradually ease to moderate strength.

Sea conditions will also be rough, with northerly or north-westerly winds of force 5 to 6, occasionally reaching force 7. This will generate rough to very rough seas overnight, with northerly swell of 3 to 4 metres, increasing to 4 to 5 metres, along with occasional heavy showers.

Here is the island by island forecast for Wednesday 4th March 2026:

Lanzarote
Mostly cloudy skies are expected, with clearer spells around the middle of the day. During the early hours, light to moderate rainfall is forecast, possibly in the form of showers and with a small chance of isolated thunderstorms.

A light calima is expected to arrive during the afternoon, mainly at higher levels. Minimum temperatures will remain similar to previous days, while maximum temperatures may rise slightly.
North-westerly winds will be strong overnight, with very strong gusts that could reach 90 km/h in the north of the island. During the morning the wind will turn northerly and ease to moderate strength.
General temperature range: Low of 13°C and a high of 21°C.

Fuerteventura
Skies will also be mostly cloudy, with clearer intervals during the middle of the day. Light to moderate rain is expected during the early hours and morning, possibly in the form of showers and with a small chance of isolated thunderstorms.
Calima is forecast to arrive in the afternoon, again mainly at higher altitudes. Minimum temperatures will remain similar or rise slightly, while daytime temperatures will increase slightly.

Strong north-westerly winds are expected overnight, easing and turning northerly to moderate strength during the morning.
General temperature range: Low of 14°C and a high of 20°C.

Gran Canaria
Cloudy conditions will dominate, although skies are expected to become clearer in the south later in the afternoon.
Persistent light to moderate rain is forecast in the north and west, especially in mid-altitude areas, with showers possible during the morning. In other areas, occasional light and isolated rainfall cannot be ruled out.
A light calima is expected later in the day, mainly affecting higher levels. Minimum temperatures will remain stable or rise slightly, while maximum temperatures will increase slightly.

Strong north-westerly winds are expected overnight, with very strong gusts possible on north-east and south-west slopes and in high areas. During the morning the wind will turn northerly and ease, although strong intervals may continue in exposed areas.
General temperature range: Low of 17°C and a high of 21°C.

Tenerife
Cloudy skies will affect the north of the island, while other areas will remain mostly clear with some cloud during the middle of the day.
Persistent light to moderate rain is expected in the north, with showers possible during the morning. Elsewhere, occasional light rain cannot be ruled out, and on the highest peaks above 2,000 metres precipitation could fall as snow.

A light calima is expected during the afternoon, mainly at higher altitudes. Minimum temperatures will remain unchanged, with weak to moderate frost possible on the central peaks. Maximum temperatures will rise slightly, particularly in mid-altitude and high areas.
Strong north-westerly winds overnight may produce gusts of up to 100 km/h along the Tenerife ridge, especially during the early hours. Winds will turn northerly and ease to moderate strength later in the morning.
General temperature range: Low of 16°C and a high of 22°C.
