The Canary Islands are set for another sweltering day today, Wednesday, with a combination of high temperatures and light calima expected to keep conditions uncomfortable across much of the archipelago.
According to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), skies will remain largely clear with a layer of Saharan dust at higher levels. Temperatures are expected to exceed 30–33°C across most of the islands away from the north coasts, while some areas could see the mercury climb close to 40°C.
The hottest conditions are forecast for inland and mid-altitude areas, with Gran Canaria once again expected to experience the most extreme temperatures.
Along the coasts, light to moderate northerly winds will blow, becoming strong at times, while at sea, north and north-easterly winds of Force 3 to 4, occasionally increasing to Force 5, will create slight to moderate seas.
Island-by-island forecasts for Wednesday 8th July 2026:
Tenerife
Mostly clear with light calima at higher levels. Some low cloud is expected over northern coastal areas during the morning and again after sunset below 300–500 metres.
Temperatures will remain very high, with 30–32°C expected across most of the island away from the north coast. Western, southern and eastern mid-altitude areas are forecast to reach 34°C, with isolated spots potentially climbing to 37°C. Northern mid-altitude areas will generally see 30–33°C, locally reaching 34°C, while temperatures closer to the coast will be noticeably lower.
Coastal areas will experience northerly winds, while the higher slopes of Mount Teide will see light to moderate westerly winds. Sea breezes are expected along the north and west coasts.
General temperature range: Low of 23°C and high of 34°C.
