WEATHER: The heat is beginning to subside and rains will arrive on Tuesday

The month of March has earned its place in meteorological history in the Canary Islands due to the extreme temperatures which have been unusual for the time of year. Official temperatures topped 37.8°C in Gran Canaria on Thursday, and broke records two days running that had stood since 1951.

Following this, we said goodbye to March yesterday as the sky turned brown a due to the intensity of the haze and a plethora of weather warnings across the archipelago, which have now been deactivated.

With March over, we welcome April with a forecasted drop in temperatures over the weekend to levels more expected in Spring in the Canary Islands.

According to the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), there is a low probability of very strong gusts locally on the summits, as well as the northwest and southeast slopes of the mountainous Islands, especially during the second half of the day.

They are also forecasting that there will be widespread rain in the archipelago from Tuesday, due to the formation of a storm in the Atlantic to the north of the Canary Islands, which could mean a wet Easter next weekend.

However, the intensity and longevity of these rains will depend on the evolution of this weather formation over the next 48 hours.
