Atlantic storm fronts moving towards the Canary Islands will bring increasingly intense rainfall tomorrow onwards (Friday), particularly affecting the northern slopes of the islands.

Another pre-alert for adverse weather conditions has been issued in the archipelago this week, as authorities prepare for a period of unsettled conditions. By Sunday, rainfall in the islands could become locally heavy, although temperatures are expected to remain largely stable.

Aemet’s forecast for the Canary Islands in the coming days is as follows:

Thursday:
Cloudy intervals, again with predominantly overcast skies in the north of the mountainous islands. Isolated light showers may occur in the mid-altitude areas of the central islands. Temperatures will remain stable, with slight rises at higher elevations. Northeasterly winds will continue, with strong intervals on the southeast and northwest slopes and coastal breezes in the southwest of the larger islands.

Friday:
Cloudy to overcast conditions. Light to moderate rain is expected in the north of the mountainous islands, especially La Palma, Tenerife and Gran Canaria, during the second half of the day, with occasional weaker showers possible in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. Temperatures will remain steady, with a slight rise in maximum values. Moderate northerly winds will strengthen later in the day.

Saturday:
Cloudy intervals with rain in the north of the mountainous islands. Light, occasional showers are also possible in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. Minimum temperatures will remain stable, while maximum temperatures will fall slightly, especially at high altitudes. Northerly winds will continue, with strong intervals and the possibility of very strong gusts in exposed areas.

Sunday:
Although Aemet has not yet published its official forecast for Sunday due to the lead time, the European weather model indicates this will be the day of the heaviest rainfall across the islands. All islands are expected to see rain, with the most intense conditions likely in La Palma, Tenerife, and Gran Canaria, particularly on their northern slopes.
