Two men have been arrested in Santa María de Guía, in Gran Canaria, after Guardia Civil officers discovered 910 ecstasy pills hidden during a routine vehicle stop.
The incident took place on 17th May around 9:00pm, when officers at a standard identification checkpoint noticed a vehicle attempting to evade the police.
Upon stopping the car, they noticed an unusual bulge in the trousers of a man sitting in the front passenger seat.
When questioned, the man voluntarily handed over a plastic bag, which was found to contain hundreds of yellowish, rectangular tablets marked "neflix", suspected to be ecstasy. In total there were 910 pills weighing 362 grams.
Due to this, officers proceeded to detain the two men, but one of them tried to resist arrest so police had to restrain him, according to an official statement from the Guardia Civil.
The suspects, along with the drugs seized and all relevant evidence, were handed over to the duty court in Santa María de Guía, so that they could be sentenced.
Authorities emphasised that this operation prevented a significant quantity of dangerous drugs from reaching the market, particularly targeting young consumers. Ecstasy is known to cause immediate side effects such as nausea, chills, sweating, and blurred vision, and may impair mental ability and driving skills in the days following use.
