The notorious ‘Tinajo Gravedigger’ drug dealer is arrested in Lanzarote

A Lanzarote man accused of running a drug distribution network from various locations, including a cemetery, is set to go on trial later this month. The suspect has been nicknamed the “Tinajo Gravedigger” and will face the Provincial Court of Las Palmas in Arrecife on 28th May.

He stands accused of serious public health offences, including the supply and distribution of large quantities of illegal drugs.

Prosecutors are calling for an eight-year prison sentence, a €91,500 fine, and a temporary ban on certain civic rights for the duration of the term. Discussions are ongoing to reach a possible plea agreement that could avoid a full court hearing.

Though the defendant’s prior convictions for theft, burglary, falsification of documents, and receiving stolen goods have been expunged, prosecutors argue that the current case demonstrates a “serious threat to public health.”

Drugs Hidden at Cemetery and Dog Shelter

The allegations stem from December 2023, when police began investigating reports that R.F.A. had been using his role as a council employee to conduct illegal activity in Tinajo. Authorities say he ran operations from his home, the local cemetery, and a nearby dog shelter.

On 2nd February 2024, police carried out coordinated raids, seizing a substantial quantity of drugs and cash. Officers found 475 grams of cocaine, 342 grams of marijuana, weighing scales, and €20,600 in cash at the suspect’s home.

In addition to this, a further 53 wraps of cocaine and a €50 note were discovered at the Tinajo cemetery.

In total, prosecutors say the operation uncovered over 487 grams of cocaine and approximately 278 grams of cannabis, with a street value estimated at €30,500.

The case has drawn significant public attention on the island, with the unusual locations used for alleged drug storage, particularly the cemetery, raising concern among residents.
