The heat is back: AEMET activates yellow and orange warnings for high temperatures

The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has updated weather warnings in the Canary Islands, issuing orange and yellow warnings due to the heat.

A yellow warning has been activated in Tenerife for extreme temperatures in the east, south, and western areas of the Island, which are expected to reach 37 degrees in some parts, and feel even hotter in some local sheltered areas.

The warnings will also be in effect tomorrow and will mainly affect the west and south inland areas.

As for the rest of the Archipelago, Gran Canaria is under an orange warning today and tomorrow, with highs up to 40 degrees in the west, south and southeast slopes of the Island.

A yellow warning has also been issued In Fuerteventura, La Gomera, and El Hierro, because temperatures could exceed 34 degrees.

The presence of light haze is not ruled out, starting in the eastern islands of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura then spreading west across the rest of the archipelago.
