The IGN recorded 330 earthquakes in September, the highest number since January

In their monthly report, the IGN shows that 331 earthquakes were recorded in the Canary Islands during September 2022, the highest number since January, which still had seismic activity after the eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano in La Palma finally ended.

The largest earthquake of 3.3 magnitude was detected in Alegranza, the small uninhabited island north of Lanzarote, and there were 42 tremors between Tenerife and Gran Canaria of between 2 and 3 magnitude at varying depths.

There was also a ‘swarm’ of eight earthquakes early in the morning of September 15th in the Enmedio volcano, which were very low magnitude.

The report also reveals that the subsoil also moved somewhat more than usual in Adeje, Guía de Isora, and Vilaflor in Tenerife.
