Firefighters in the south of Tenerife have hosted a major emergency awareness event as part of the 2025 Fire Prevention Week, drawing in more than 200 schoolchildren to learn life-saving skills in Adeje.
The event, held yesterday, Monday, at the Costa Adeje Tourism Development Centre (CDTCA), was organised by the island’s Fire Prevention and Rescue Consortium. The day featured two training sessions, one in the morning tailored for pupils, and another open to the general public in the afternoon.
The young participants took part in hands-on demonstrations, including how to properly use fire extinguishers, simulated home fire scenarios, and expert-led talks on emergency preparedness.
Iván Martín, President of the Consortium, said the initiative is designed to equip the public with essential safety knowledge. “These sessions aim to teach basic emergency response habits to prevent risks and ensure people can act safely while waiting for professional services to arrive.”
Adeje’s councillor for security, Mercedes Vargas, highlighted the importance of early education in emergency prevention. “This is a powerful way to emphasise the value of prevention, especially for children, who can become key educators in their own households and communities.”
The training also saw participation from the Local Police, Civil Protection, and the Red Cross. The campaign is backed by the Tenerife Cabilbo, Fundación MAPFRE, and the Professional Association of Fire Technicians (APTB).
The fire prevention week will continue tomorrow, Wednesday 21st May, in the municipality of Granadilla de Abona.
