A teacher in Playa Blanca is facing up to six years in prison after being accused of sexually abusing a 13-year-old student. The case is due to be heard next week at the Provincial Court in Las Palmas.
Prosecutors allege the man used his position of authority to begin an inappropriate relationship with the pupil between April 2023 and December 2024. The charges state he kissed her and carried out inappropriate touching over her clothing.
The alleged offences are classified as sexual abuse of a minor under the age of 16, with the victim said to have been 13 at the time. The prosecution is seeking a six-year prison sentence, with the teacher’s role considered an aggravating factor.
In addition, prosecutors are requesting a ban on the defendant working in any role involving regular contact with minors for three years after serving any prison sentence. They are also seeking restrictions preventing him from approaching or contacting the victim and certain family members, with a minimum distance of 500 metres for five years.
If convicted, the man could also be subject to five years of supervised release and required to take part in sexual education programmes. Prosecutors are further requesting compensation of €6,000 for moral damages.
