Light calima and scattered rain are expected to continue across the Canary Islands today, Thursday, according to the latest forecast from the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET).

Forecasters say there is a low probability of light, isolated showers across parts of the archipelago, while a light dust haze (calima) is likely to affect the more eastern islands of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura during the first half of the day.

Winds will generally be moderate from the north or north-east, strengthening in higher areas during the afternoon.

General outlook

Across Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, skies will be partly cloudy with only a small chance of brief, light showers. The possibility of light calima remains during the morning.

In the northern parts of Tenerife, Gran Canaria and the western islands, skies will be mostly cloudy with occasional light rain, which could become locally moderate later in the evening.

Elsewhere, particularly in the south, conditions will remain largely dry with only occasional cloud and a slight chance of isolated light showers.

Daytime temperatures will remain largely unchanged, while night-time temperatures may rise slightly inland. However, weak frost is still possible in the central peaks of Tenerife.

Sea conditions

At sea, northerly to north-easterly winds of force 4 to 5 are expected, strengthening to force 6 offshore. The sea state will range from moderate to rough, with a north or north-west swell of 4 to 5 metres, gradually easing to 3 to 4 metres later in the afternoon, and 2 to 3 metres overnight. Occasional showers are also possible.
