Puerto del Carmen issued red flags on all its beaches this morning (Sunday), due to hazardous sea conditions, as reported by the Lanzarote Emergency Services call centre.
Playa Chica, Playa Grande, Los Pocillos, Matagorda, and the beach near Hotel Fariones are all flying red flags, signalling the prohibition of swimming. Warning signs have also been posted, cautioning against entering the water under such circumstances.
The latest specific alert from CECOES, around mid-morning, indicates that the southeast wind will have strong gusts reaching up to 60 km/h. This is particularly expected in inland areas, the western and northern slopes, and also in La Graciosa.
Also, the calima, which is not expected to subside until Tuesday of the following week, will intensify later this afternoon across the island.
The Aemet forecast for Lanzarote tomorrow, Monday, shows that the calima will be more widespread than in previous days, and the southeast wind will continue with strong gusts exceeding 60 km/h especially in inland areas, the western and northern slopes, and in La Graciosa.
By Tuesday, the calima is expected to gradually subside by the end of the day, and the wind will also decrease in intensity, although the warning about possible strong gusts remains in effect.
