The Government of the Canary Islands, through the Directorate General of Emergencies, has declared a pre-alert for rainfall in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura from 10:00am tomorrow, Tuesday 13th January.
The decision follows information from Spain’s national weather agency AEMET and other official sources, in line with the Canary Islands’ emergency plan for severe weather (PEFMA).
According to AEMET, a cold front will sweep across all of the islands on Tuesday, bringing widespread rain. The heaviest rainfall is expected in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, with light to moderate rain on north-facing slopes, and local downpours. Thunderstorms are also possible around both islands.
Rain will continue into Wednesday, particularly in northern areas, although showers may appear elsewhere. Later in the week, the likelihood of rain will decrease and mainly affect the northern sides of Tenerife and Gran Canaria, while the south of the archipelago is expected to remain mostly clear.
Temperatures will stay mild, with overnight lows of 15–17°C and daytime highs of 20–22°C in coastal areas.
