One critical after bin lorry overturns on TF-1 motorway near Guaza

Three men were injured, one of them seriously, after a refuse lorry overturned in the early hours of this morning on the TF-1 motorway near Guaza in the south of Tenerife.

The crash happened at around 1:15am near the Guaza turn-off, when the Canary Islands emergency coordination centre (CECOES), received reports that the vehicle had overturned with three occupants trapped inside.

One man suffers serious head injury

The most seriously injured is a 47-year-old man who sustained a severe head injury. He was treated at the scene before being transferred by a medicalised ambulance to Hospiten Sur.

Two other men, both aged 40, suffered minor injuries. One was taken to Hospital del Sur El Mojón, while the other was transferred to Hospital Quirón Costa Adeje.

One of the injured men became trapped inside the cab of the vehicle and had to be freed by firefighters before he could be treated.

Emergency response on scene

Officers from the Guardia Civil, Local Police and the Cabildo’s Road Maintenance Service also attended the incident. The Guardia Civil has opened an investigation and is preparing the official report into the cause of the accident.

The overturn caused disruption on the TF-1 during the early morning hours, although traffic was gradually restored once emergency crews cleared the scene.
