Man dies after falling 30 metres down cliffside in Tenerife

A man has died after falling more than 30 metres from a cliff on Tenerife’s north coast. The incident happened near Bajamar, in the municipality of La Laguna, yesterday afternoon (Wednesday).

Emergency services were called to the area around Charco de Las Lajas after a witness reportedly saw the man fall from a considerable height.

A medical ambulance, rescue and medical helicopters, firefighters, and local and national police officers were sent to the area.

Paramedics confirmed that the man had suffered fatal injuries and pronounced him dead on arrival.

The medical helicopter was subsequently stood down, while the rescue helicopter worked to recover the body and take it to an accessible location for identification.

Initial police enquiries suggest the fall may have been accidental. Visitors to coastal areas are advised to remain behind safety barriers and take particular care near exposed cliffs.
