Puerto del Rosario Council has launched a new project where local teenagers will create and lead guided walking routes around the town centre, giving visitors a fresh and youthful look at the capital of Fuerteventura.
The initiative involves the Tourism Department and students from all five secondary schools in the area. Working together, the teenagers will design routes especially aimed at cruise passengers, showing them key landmarks and urban art while sharing what life is like for young people growing up in the town.
The council says the project helps students learn more about their own community, build confidence, improve communication and teamwork, and practise languages such as English with real visitors.
In the first stage of the project, launched last Friday (16th January), the 60 participating students were introduced to important places that may feature in the routes. These included La Molina de la Charca, the Church of the Virgen del Rosario, Casa de Unamuno, the lime kilns of El Charco, and a range of murals and street sculptures.
For the town, the scheme offers a different and more sustainable form of tourism that highlights the cultural identity of Puerto del Rosario and promotes pride among local residents.
It also aims to strengthen community ties by bringing teenagers and neighbours together, while giving cruise visitors a more personal and enjoyable experience.
