An 18-year-old man has been arrested in south Tenerife after allegedly physically assaulting his mother during an incident at their family home in Granadilla de Abona.

Officers from the Policia Canaria were sent to the property following an emergency call reporting a family dispute involving a young man who was said to be highly agitated.

According to the police report, the incident began when officers from the Citizen Security Unit (USEC) were dispatched by the Canary Islands emergency coordination centre, CECOES.

When officers arrived at the property, they found the young man in what police described as a state of severe agitation, and they were told that his mother had allegedly been physically assaulted and was afraid to remain at the property with her son.

Police assessed that there was a significant risk of another incident occurring and decided to arrest the 18-year-old on suspicion of an offence involving domestic violence.

Following his arrest, the young man was placed at the disposal of the judicial authorities.
