The State Meteorological Agency, AEMET, has issued its weather outlook for today, Sunday, overall, it will be a pleasant spring day across the Canary Islands, with warm temperatures, light winds, and only a small risk of passing showers.
Cloud will be more noticeable in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, while much of the rest of the archipelago will enjoy largely clear skies. However, there is still a small chance of occasional, light showers in some areas.
Temperatures are expected to rise, particularly in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, with light northerly winds at lower levels, shifting to southerly over higher ground. Stronger winds are likely along east and north-east coasts of Tenerife, Gran Canaria, and the western islands.
Sea Conditions
At sea, north-easterly winds of force 2 to 4 are expected around La Palma and El Hierro, bringing slight to moderate conditions. Elsewhere, winds will be variable at force 1 to 3, strengthening later from the north or north-east. Around Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, winds will turn north-westerly. A northerly swell of 1 to 2 metres is also expected.
Island-by-island forecast for Sunday 5th April 2026:
Lanzarote
Expect intervals of cloud, mainly medium and high-level. Temperatures will remain steady overnight, with daytime highs rising slightly, particularly away from the north-east. Winds will be light and variable, turning easterly and strengthening slightly inland during the middle of the day.
General temperature range: Low of 17°C and high of 26°C.
Fuerteventura
Cloudy intervals will dominate, again with medium and high-level cloud. Temperatures will edge upwards, especially daytime highs in the west and southern areas. Winds will remain light and variable, mainly from the north, turning easterly and picking up slightly inland during midday hours.
General temperature range: Low of 17°C and high of 24°C.
Gran Canaria
Mostly clear skies, with some medium and high cloud early on and low cloud developing in the north later in the day. Temperatures will rise slightly, particularly along coastal areas. Winds will be light and variable, mainly northerly along the coast and turning southerly over higher ground, with stronger gusts along south-east and north-west coasts.
General temperature range: Low of 18°C and high of 22°C.
Tenerife
Largely clear, with some cloud building during the afternoon. There is a slight chance of isolated, light showers later in the day, especially in northern low-lying areas. Temperatures will see little change overall, although daytime highs may rise slightly on the eastern side, particularly along the coast. Winds will be light from the north, stronger in the far north-east and north-west early and late in the day, and southerly over central high ground.
General temperature range: Low of 18°C and high of 24°C.
Please note:
It’s important to remember that the Canary Islands are full of micro-climates due to the mountainous areas. This means all forecasts and temperatures are general for the island, and not location specific. It will generally be cooler at altitude up mountains, and warmer in sheltered coastal areas, and can be very different just a few kilometres away.
