Influencer who buried €1,000 in the Dunes of Maspalomas is fined

The Gran Canaria Cabildo have confirmed that they are issuing a fine of 600 euros to the organisers of a music event, who used influencers and a buried briefcase with 1,000 euros inside it, in the Maspalomas Dunes Natural Reserve to advertise and promote their event.

The Environment Minister of the Cabildo, Raúl García Brink, said yesterday (Monday) that his hands are tied because, unfortunately, this sanction is the maximum for this type of infraction.

He highlighted the fact that it is only a “minority” of people that carry out this type of act, usually without realising the law, as most people are aware that these types of actions should not take place in protected areas such as the Dunes of Maspalomas.

The search for the buried briefcase took place on Saturday when around 50 people responded to the social media posts and started digging up the area where the coordinates said the 1,000 euros was located.
