Agents from the Guardia Civil successfully rescued a 10-month-old baby who had become trapped inside a car on Friday (May 31st), in the municipality of Tacoronte in Tenerife. The incident occurred after the baby's mother accidentally locked the keys inside the vehicle, rendering her unable to open it.
The distressed mother immediately called the emergency services and responding quickly, a Guardia Civil patrol car arrived at the scene, accompanied by the fire brigade and an ambulance.
Once there, they had to break the car's window to free the baby, who was already showing signs of dehydration and was taken to the Tacoronte Health Centre, where medical staff stabilised and rehydrated her.
This swift response ensured the baby received the necessary medical attention, highlighting the importance of immediate action in such critical situations. The Guardia Civil has issued advice for such emergencies:
If you find a child alone inside a vehicle, the first step is to contact the emergency services and follow their instructions.
It is crucial to remove the child from the vehicle as quickly as possible and to cool them down by placing them in a shaded area, removing their clothing, and applying cool compresses if available.
Spraying the child's body with water and fanning them to induce evaporation can also help.
If the child is conscious, providing them with water is essential.
The child should then be taken to a healthcare facility for further treatment.
