Guardia Civil Police officer shoots her two daughters and then takes her own life

A 42-year-old police officer shot her two daughters, aged 9 and 11, to death yesterday morning (Thursday) in a house at the Guardia Civil barracks in Cuenca. Moments later, the officer took her own life with the same weapon.

According to sources close to the investigation, she was in the process of separating from the father of the girls in a messy divorce, so the motive for the double murder is being classed as a ‘revenge killing’ against her partner, who is not currently living in the barracks.

However, according to the same sources, the Guardia Civil officer had not shown any "abnormal or unusual behaviour" in recent days.

The incident was discovered shortly after 7am yesterday morning, when a colleague of the female officer investigated why she hadn’t turn up for work and wasn’t answering her calls.

After knocking on the door of her house, and getting no response, he forced the door open and found the three dead bodies on the floor. The body of the female officer was still holding her regulation police issue weapon in her right hand.

A full investigation is under way.
