According to airport operator AENA, one flight to Lanzarote Airport was cancelled on Sunday, while a further eight flights were diverted due to strong winds and adverse weather conditions linked to the storm, as Lanzarote was among the worst islands affected following a series of flight disruptions.

Several inbound flights to Lanzarote were diverted to other islands. Aircraft travelling from Hamburg, Frankfurt and Rotterdam were rerouted to Gran Canaria, while flights from London, Manchester and Newcastle were redirected to Fuerteventura.

These diversions then caused delays for passengers waiting to leave the island, as their planes were now at other airports as they couldn’t land in Lanzarote. The cancelled service was an inter-island flight scheduled to depart from Gran Canaria.

Weather warnings remain in place

Heavy rain alerts remain active across the Canary Islands, with authorities continuing to monitor the situation closely. A pre-alert for strong winds is also still in force.

Storm Therese has brought persistent rainfall, strong winds and reduced visibility in recent days, causing disruption not only to flights but also to road and ferry travel across the archipelago.

Passengers travelling to or from Lanzarote are advised to check with their airline for the latest updates and allow extra time when heading to the airport.

Further disruption remains possible while weather conditions remain unsettled.
