Flights cancelled on four islands due to heavy rains this Sunday

UPDATE 2.44PM: Flight cancellations have now been extended until at least 6.00pm.

Binter has cancelled, at least until 6.00pm today (Sunday), all flights that were scheduled to take off or land at the airports of Tenerife, La Gomera, El Hierro, and La Palma due to the heavy rains that are being recorded as a result of the passage of Tropical Storm Hermine near the Islands.

In an online statement, Binter recommends that “if you are going to fly from the rest of the islands, please check the status of your flight first”.

The airline is evaluating the evolution of the situation derived from the tropical storm, after 100 litres per square metre of rain were recorded this morning affecting their operations, particularly from Los Rodeos, the Tenerife North airport.

They have confirmed that they are in contact with the competent authorities, and are waiting for the necessary safety conditions to be met so that flights can operate as normal.

According to the latest update from Aena, 79 flights have been cancelled and a further 30 diverted due to the storm.
