A father in Lanzarote has filed a formal complaint with the Guardia Civil after allegedly being assaulted by a man who, moments earlier, had attempted to run over his young daughter with a car in the village of Mozaga, in Teguise.
According to the father’s statement, the altercation, which took place on 24th April, arose from a longstanding family dispute over land involving the mother-in-law of the alleged attacker. The father reported that he and his daughter were returning home when the incident took place.
“As my daughter and I were arriving home, I was already climbing the stairs with her behind me when I heard a crash,” he told authorities. “I turned to see the car hitting the curb and my daughter in shock.” He said the driver then got out of the vehicle, leading to a confrontation in which he demanded an explanation.
The father alleged that the man responded with violence. “He came at me and attacked me. I went to the doctor for a medical report of my injuries. I told him he was making a mistake as he continued to hit me,” he said.
Following the incident, the daughter required emergency medical care. A report from the clinic noted psychological trauma, including disturbed sleep, loss of appetite, poor concentration, and a fear of going outside, particularly due to the possibility of encountering the alleged attacker again.
During the attack, the father was holding the family dog, which later showed signs of injury. “The dog started passing blood in its stools,” he said, adding that the injury may have been sustained during the assault.
The man named in the complaint is reportedly employed as a caretaker at a local school and also coaches a youth sports team. The father has alerted Teguise Town Hall to the incident, citing concern over his ongoing contact with children.
The accused allegedly told the Guardia Civil that he had “lost control” of the vehicle during the incident. The investigation remains ongoing.
