Cloudy and windy weather continues across the Canary Islands this Wednesday
Unsettled weather will continue across the Canary Islands today, Wednesday, with cloudier conditions in the north of the islands and some light rain, according to the latest forecast from AEMET. The situation has prompted the Canary Islands authorities to issue another pre-alert this week due to adverse weather conditions, mainly linked to wind and sea conditions.
Skies will be variable across the archipelago, although cloud will be more persistent on northern slopes, particularly on the more mountainous islands. Any rainfall is expected to be light, scattered and short-lived.
Temperatures will see very little change, remaining mild for the time of year. Northeasterly winds will be noticeable in many areas and may become strong at times in exposed locations. In the central highlands of Tenerife, very strong gusts from the north are expected, although these should ease by the end of the day.
At sea, conditions will deteriorate as the day progresses. Winds will shift from west or northwest to northerly, strengthening during the afternoon and evening. Seas will become increasingly rough, with a growing northwest swell reaching up to two to three metres overnight, especially along northern and western coasts. Southern and south-western coasts will remain somewhat more sheltered, but caution is advised, particularly for swimmers and small boats.
LANZAROTE
In Lanzarote, the day will begin with cloudy intervals, especially in the north of the island where skies are expected to remain mostly overcast. There is a reasonable chance of light rain during the early hours of the morning, although any rainfall should be brief and patchy. As the day goes on, cloud may break at times, particularly in southern and inland areas. Temperatures will remain stable, with mild daytime highs and cool overnight lows. Northerly winds will be moderate to strong at times, particularly along the coast and in open areas, adding a noticeable chill to the air.
Expected temperature range: Low of 15°C and high of 20°C.
FUERTEVENTURA
Fuerteventura will see a similar pattern, with cloudy intervals throughout the day and occasional brighter spells. Rain is unlikely, but skies may remain dull at times, especially during the morning. Temperatures will change very little, staying comfortable but slightly cooler in exposed areas due to the wind. Northerly winds will be a key feature of the day, becoming strong at times, particularly along the eastern and western coasts and in higher, open terrain. Sea conditions around the island will become rough later in the day.
Expected temperature range: Low of 14°C and high of 20°C.
GRAN CANARIA
In Gran Canaria, cloud will be most persistent in northern parts of the island, where skies are expected to be mostly cloudy for much of the day. There is a chance of light and occasional rain in these areas, although significant rainfall is not expected. Southern and south-western parts of the island should see more sunshine, particularly during the afternoon. Temperatures will remain largely unchanged, although coastal areas may see slightly milder nights, while daytime temperatures inland could dip a little. Northeasterly winds will blow strongly at times in the southeast, northwest and on exposed high ground, while calmer sea breezes are expected in the southwest.
Expected temperature range: Low of 17°C and high of 21°C.
TENERIFE
Tenerife will experience variable cloud cover, with clearer and brighter conditions more likely in the eastern parts of the island. In contrast, northern and western mid-level areas may see cloud build-up, with a low chance of light, scattered showers. Temperatures will remain steady across the island. Northeasterly winds will be strong at times, particularly along the southeast coast and in the far northwest. In the central mountains, including higher elevations, strong northerly winds with very strong gusts are expected during the day, easing towards evening. These conditions may affect hiking and travel at altitude.
Expected temperature range: Low of 16°C and high of 21°C.
