Beaches in the Canary Islands have topped the national ranking for online searches, according to a new study by digital analytics platform Semrush, which analysed more than eight million search queries throughout 2024.
They found the archipelago leads the way with 14 of the most searched beaches in all of Spain.
Following the Canary Islands were Andalusia with eight popular beaches, Cantabria with six, the Balearic Islands with five, and the regions of Valencia, Galicia, and Asturias each featuring four.
However, when measured by average search volume, the Balearic Islands came out ahead with 460,667 monthly searches, followed by Andalusia with 437,168, and the Canary Islands with 396,800.
Search activity spiked in May 2024, reaching 246,000 queries, suggesting many people begin planning their holidays well before the summer officially begins.
The study also highlighted rising interest in beaches tailored to specific needs. Searches for “nudist beach” peaked at 110,000 in August, while searches for “dog beach” rose by 20.8% compared to the previous year, with monthly averages nearing 27,000 search requests.
