The Canary Islands are set to improve international flight links with seven new routes from northern and central Europe. The plan, supported by the Fondo de Desarrollo de Vuelos (FDV), aims to attract higher-spending visitors while keeping overall tourist numbers stable.

To spread tourism more evenly across the islands, the new flights have been shared out as follows:

  • La Palma will gain four new routes
  • Fuerteventura will add two
  • Gran Canaria will add one

The new connections link the islands with Basel, Nantes, Marseille, Stockholm, Copenhagen, and airports in the United Kingdom. Several routes have already begun, while the rest will launch later this year.

New routes confirmed:

  • La Palma – Basel, operated by easyJet
  • La Palma – Nantes, operated by Volotea
  • Gran Canaria – Marseille, operated by Volotea
  • Fuerteventura – Stockholm, operated by TUI
  • La Palma – London Stansted, operated by Jet2.com
  • La Palma – Birmingham, operated by Jet2.com
  • Copenhagen – Fuerteventura, operated by Scandinavian Airlines

The FDV, created in 2014 and renewed in 2022 with the approval of the European Commission, is designed to improve flight access to the islands and support a more balanced and sustainable tourism model.

Officials say the new routes are part of a wider plan to open up fresh markets, especially as the UK and Germany, two key visitor countries, continue to face economic challenges.
