VIDEO: Calima is back in the Canary Islands

The haze has returned to the Canary Islands after a short respite, and the Saharan dust will be the main protagonist in the Islands today (Monday), which brings reduced visibility and considerably worse air quality with it.

The most striking images of the calima entering the islands come from images captured from the air yesterday afternoon by the GOES 16 weather satellite, in which you can see that Lanzarote and Fuerteventura have disappeared under the haze.

Monday’s forecast from AEMET:

The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) predicts that the haze will spread from east to west and decrease slightly throughout Monday afternoon.

Minimum temperatures will remain unchanged on the coasts and a slight decrease in inland areas, but maximum temperatures will rise slightly in La Palma, El Hierro and La Gomera, with few changes in the rest except small drops in inland areas of Tenerife.

The wind will blow from the east, which is where the haze is coming from, with some strong gusts inland and at summits, and possibly some very strong gusts on slopes facing the north and west of the islands, subsiding this afternoon.
