British tourists continue to play a leading role in Lanzarote’s tourism industry. In the first six months of 2025, they accounted for 51% of all visitors, with 878,392 arrivals recorded at César Manrique-Lanzarote Airport.
Ireland once again proved to be the island’s second most important market, sending nearly 200,000 holidaymakers, an extraordinary number given the size of the country’s population.
Germany followed with 160,361 visitors, while 140,000 travellers came from mainland Spain and 119,509 from France. Other European nations, including the Netherlands, Italy, Scandinavia, and Belgium, contributed smaller numbers, with none exceeding 50,000 arrivals.
These latest figures mirror a long-standing trend. In 2024, Lanzarote welcomed around 3.4 million tourists in total, setting a new record for the island. Of that figure, an estimated 1.6 million came from the United Kingdom, meaning British travellers represented about 47% of the total market.
German visitors, by comparison, numbered just 275,000, less than a quarter of the UK total. The previous year, 2023, saw just over 3 million arrivals, showing steady year-on-year growth across the island’s tourism industry.
What is striking in the 2025 data is not only the continued dominance of the British market but the fact that its share has increased. Whereas British travellers accounted for 47% of visitors in 2024, they already represented 51% of arrivals in the first half of this year, highlighting the island’s growing dependence on the UK.
Despite local authorities and businesses working hard to diversify by attracting visitors from other European countries, the numbers suggest that Lanzarote remains heavily reliant on its strongest market.
This reliance, while sustaining record levels of tourism, leaves the sector exposed to risks. Any unforeseen event affecting travel between the UK and Lanzarote, whether economic, political, or environmental, could have a significant impact on the island’s economy.
For now, however, the picture remains positive: British tourists continue to make Lanzarote one of their favourite overseas destinations, ensuring a vibrant first half of 2025 and reaffirming the island’s enduring appeal among UK holidaymakers.
