A body was discovered at Famara Beach in Lanzarote yesterday afternoon (Tuesday), the same area where a 37-year-old surfer died and a 28-year-old swimmer of Indian origin went missing on Sunday.
According to the Lanzarote Emergency Consortium, the body was found by beachgoers at around 5:00pm. Emergency services were immediately alerted, and both firefighters and the Guardia Civil were deployed to the scene to carry out the necessary procedures to remove the body.
At present, the Guardia Civil has stated that the body remains unidentified, and efforts are underway to officially confirm the victim’s identity.
The search for the missing man had resumed earlier on Tuesday morning for the third consecutive day, involving extensive air, sea, and land resources. Participating in the operation were firefighters from the Lanzarote Emergency Consortium, Maritime Rescue units — including the Al Nair rescue vessel and a helicopter — the Canary Islands Emergency and Rescue Group (GES), and the Guardia Civil, which deployed a patrol boat in the area.
The discovery brings a tragic end to the intensive search operation that had been ongoing since the man disappeared while swimming off the coast of Famara, a beach known for its strong currents and challenging sea conditions.
