A storm approaching from the west is set to impact the Canary Islands between today and tomorrow. The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has activated a yellow rain alert for La Palma, effective tomorrow (Tuesday, October 15th) from 4:00pm. It is expected that the rainfall could reach 15mm within an hour, particularly in inland areas on the western side of the island.
Additionally, the Canary Islands Government has maintained a pre-alert for coastal conditions across several islands, including Tenerife, La Palma, El Hierro, Lanzarote, and Fuerteventura.
Coastal Conditions and Safety Measures
The weather forecast suggests there will be rough seas, with north-westerly winds of force 3 to 4, occasionally reaching force 5 or 6, particularly during the night. In southeast coastal areas, lighter winds of force 2 to 3 are expected, along with a northern or northwestern swell causing waves of 2 to 3 metres, which are expected to decrease to 1 to 2 metres by the end of the day.
In response to the coastal alert, authorities have issued several safety recommendations for residents and visitors:
In case of an emergency, such as a person being swept into the water, contact emergency services immediately by dialling 112.
