The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has extended the yellow weather warning in the islands again for strong winds, and gusts exceeding 70kmh. Yesterday gusts of 106kmh were measured in El Hierro, and 100.8kmh in La Gomera, and several over 70kmh in Aldea de San Nicolas in Gran Canaria and Izaña in Tenerife.
Today strong gusts above 75kmh are expected in the, peaks of Gran Canaria especially in the basins facing south, as well as in the southeast of Tenerife and in the islands of La Palma, El Hierro and La Gomera, can also experience strong gusts of wind.
Meanwhile, the rain wasn’t as strong yesterday as expected with the greatest amount of rainfall recorded at La Palma airport with almost 7 litres per square metre.
Today, Sunday, the Canary Islands are forecast a drop in temperatures, strong winds, as well as being overcast in the western islands, where snow is also expected in Tenerife. In the eastern islands, it will also be a cloudy day, with lighter winds and the probability of some precipitation.
