3 Kings Tragedy: One dead and five injured after float loses control during parade

One person has died and five others have been injured (two seriously) in an accident at 8.15pm yesterday evening (Thursday), during the Three Kings parade in the Plaza de San Andrés, in the municipality of Marchena in Seville.

Emergency Services have reported that they received several calls informing that a tractor participating in the parade lost control and had run over a group of people in its path.

According to eyewitnesses, the vehicle unhooked from one of the floats as it passed through the square and careered downhill until it crashed into a wall, eventually coming to a standstill.

Firefighters, the Guardia Civil, Local Police, and medical staff at the event rushed to the scene to help with the injured and give first assistance, and confirmed that one person was killed and five were injured, two seriously, one of which was a child.

Both the young child and the other seriously injured person were rushed to the emergency department at the Virgen del Rocío hospital in Seville, and the other three are being treated at a health centre in Osuna.

Municipal sources have confirmed that before the parade began, all the drivers of the floats were tested for alcohol and drugs, and all of them were negative. After the accident, these tests were repeated again on the driver of the tractor involved, who suffered an anxiety attack and had to be transferred to a health centre.

Police have opened an investigation into the cause of the fatal accident.
