The national leadership of the Socialist Party (PSOE) notified the Arona City Council yesterday morning, of the definitive expulsion of José Julián Mena from the party after rejecting the mayor's latest allegations, according to sources from the PSOE regional leadership.
The decision, which had already been communicated to the mayor himself on December 30th via burofax, comes after the Federal Executive Commission on November 13th, with the support of the regional and insular boards, agreed to the expulsions of Mena and the former Councillor for Urbanism Luis García, after opening disciplinary proceedings for not delivering their records given the impossibility of finding a solution to the municipal crisis which was opened after the dismissal of the Councillor for Urbanism on June 22nd.
Ferraz's notification to the City Council arrived just 48 hours before the plenary session tomorrow, in which the municipal groups expect to be informed of the transfer of the mayor of Arona to the group of not attached, ie councillors that are not a member of a political party, although Mena maintains that his party cannot expel him for sacking a councillor, as it is a power that the Constitution and the laws give him.
Although municipal sources confirmed that the communication was expected, it adds even more spice to the plenary session, which is taking place at the Cabo Blanco Civic Centre at 5pm tomorrow afternoon, two hours before its usual time to ensure compliance with the 11pm curfew.
