Adeje town hall announces council aid for taxi drivers

The Adeje council’s department of economic development and job creation, under councillors Manuel Luis Méndez Martín and Raquel Rodríguez Alonso, has announced details of grants available to the local taxi sector in the municipality.  The council will be offering grants of up to €1,500 to licence holders who meet the requirements (who can see online for more details) to offset the economic damage the Covid-19 pandemic has had on the sector.

Those who can apply are current taxi drivers who are in possession of a RETA certification (qualifying them as self-employed) or a corresponding certificate recognised by the council, and applicants must have a digital certificate to complete registration. They have until July 16th to submit their application online at: https://cutt.ly/8mc2qeV

“These grants are designed to help those who have suffered in the sector. Here in the Adeje council our goal is to look for solutions and alternatives to the various needs of different sectors and individuals during the pandemic”, said Martín.

The taxi sector has been one of the worst hit by this crisis, and the council also facilitated a grant system during 2020.  There were also a number of free training courses offered to those working in the sector by the council.  Adeje also covered many administrative costs of the taxi cooperative during 2020, in particular during the months of lockdown.
