‘Tourist go home’: Graffiti in the south of Tenerife goes viral

The slogan "Tourists go home", popularized in recent years by those who decry the saturation of this economic activity, has reached all corners of the planet. A striking example is graffiti of the phrase in Tenerife, which has made its way to Italy via a Facebook page called Viaggi del Degrado which translates as Decay of Travel.

This Facebook page, which has over 150,000 followers, shared a photograph of the graffiti in La Tejita, in the south of Tenerife, that has currently garnered over 4,000 reactions of various kinds.

The majority have taken it humorously, acknowledging that they will soon come or return to Tenerife. Others believe that the slogan could apply in Italy, while, as expected, there are some comments against the graffiti.

The Canary Islands, the only Spanish holiday destination to Present Plans to Reduce Tourism Sector Emissions at COP28 in Dubai
The Canaries was the only Spanish tourist destination represented at the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) held in Dubai, where it outlined its status as the only Spanish region with a Climate Action Plan aimed at reducing CO2 emissions to meet the Glasgow Declaration.

The Ministry of Tourism and Employment for the Canary Islands, through the public company Turismo de Islas Canarias, attended this significant international gathering to explain the roadmap it is implementing to decrease the carbon footprint of the Canarian tourism sector.

For this purpose, they utilize 'Viaje a la descarbonización' (Journey to Decarbonization), a free digital tool for tourism businesses to measure and reduce their emissions.

"Our destination has been a pioneer in adopting the objectives and commitments established in Glasgow, which aims for Net Zero by 2050. We also provide the necessary measures to support the Canarian tourism industry and promote the goals of the Declaration among professionals, tourists, and the archipelago's residents," stated José Juan Lorenzo, Managing Director of Turismo de Islas Canarias, who attended COP28 alongside the company's Environmental Sustainability expert, Isabel Florido.

"In this COP event, there is more talk than ever about implementation, and the signatories of Glasgow, including the Canary Islands, are taking firm steps in this direction," emphasized Lorenzo.
