A chaotic start to the day unfolded in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria this morning (Thursday), where an oil spill and a multi-vehicle accident caused major disruptions on the Autovía Marítima.
The first incident occurred near the Torre Las Palmas area, where an oil spill led to two motorcyclists crashing. This caused traffic congestion on the northbound lanes of the busy Avenida Marítima.
Shortly after, a second incident, involving several vehicles, further compounded the situation. In this crash, three cars and a truck were involved near the Fuente Luminosa, also in the northbound direction.
At around 8:15am, the Las Palmas Local Police reported the accident on their social media platforms, noting that the right-hand lane had to be closed.
Despite the lane closure, traffic continued to flow, albeit slowly, without major traffic jams at the time. Meanwhile, local authorities, including mobility agents and traffic units, are attending to the oil spill and the affected motorcyclists.
Efforts are underway to clear the area and restore normal traffic as soon as possible, according to updates from the police. Authorities are urging drivers to proceed with caution and be patient as they work to resolve the issues.
