King Felipe VI to lead military display in Gran Canaria

King Felipe VI of Spain will travel to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria next Friday, 6th June, to lead the main events for Armed Forces Day. The King will board the Navy ship Tornado at 3:00pm to take part in a special military ceremony at sea.

Later, he will head to Playa Las Alcaravaneras Beach, where the public can watch a large-scale display showing the skills and equipment used by Spain’s armed forces.

At 4:30pm, the Navy, Army, and Air Force will take part in a joint demonstration, which includes a beach landing, air displays, and a mock rescue of an injured person.

A specialist Army team will also show how they deal with dangerous chemical, biological, or nuclear materials in an emergency, and the Guardia Civil will carry out a training exercise showing how they intercept fast boats used for drug smuggling.

The demonstration will involve both sea and air units and will end with a simulated arrest on the beach.

The Military Emergency Unit (UME) will present a search and rescue exercise, featuring rescue boats, search dogs, and teams demonstrating the discovery of victims buried in debris.

The day will end with the Eagle Patrol, Spain’s aerobatic display team, followed by a solo performance from a C-16 fighter jet from the Air Force.

The Armed Forces Day celebrations are designed to give the public a closer look at Spain’s defence capabilities and honour the service of military personnel across the country.Top of Form
