Drivers travelling on the TF-1 motorway in the south of Tenerife were surprised this afternoon (Tuesday) by a big fire and column of smoke near Parque La Reina.
A 55-seater coach from the Sierra y González bus company caught fire and was completely burnt out on the company’s compund, next to a banana packing plant on the ‘back’ road to Los Cristianos, leaving behind a scene of towering flames with only the skeleton of the vehicle remaining.
The incident caused significant traffic jams on the northbound lane of the motorway during the fire, as understandably drivers slowed right down as the smoke poured across the carriageway.
Firefighters are still working at the scene to fully extinguish the flames and vegetation surrounding the area is being cleared as a precaution against the fire spreading further.
