Air Baltic announces ten new routes from Gran Canaria this winter

Latvian airline, Air Baltic, which began flying to Gran Canaria in November 2022, have announced that they will open a base on this island this winter, and will operate 17 weekly flights to ten new routes in Finland, Lithuania, Estonia, Norway, Denmark, and Sweden, using two Airbus A220-300 aircraft.

This was announced yesterday (Wednesday) in a statement by the Department of Tourism of the Gran Canaria Cabildo, who were pleased to confirm that the airline is increasing from an initial two flights a week this winter to 17 flights a week next winter and opening their first base outside their main area of ​​operations.

The new season will start at the end of October with flights being available to buy online from next Wednesday, 21st June.

Head of the tourism department, Carlos Álamo, said: “We are very lucky, this is great news for our destination. This is one of the most relevant operations in recent times, with a commitment by a constantly growing operator that is settling on our island and arriving at a key moment because the northern European market, one of the of strongest for tourism in Gran Canaria, had suffered as a result of Russia's invasion of Ukraine".

In his opinion, this commitment "confirms the enormous interest of the Nordics and customers from the Balkans towards this destination, and ensures a greater presence of tourists from northern Europe in the coming winter season".

Latvia has two million inhabitants and Riga airport operates as an international platform for customers from the Nordic countries, as well as Lithuania, Estonia, and Latvia.
